She loves helping me in the kitchen, but lately she has been interested in some more independent cooking, writing recipes, gathering her ingredients from the garden, markets and shops and creating something she can call her own.

On the weekend it was smoothies, she has been excited with her new Jamie Oliver book from Woolworths and has been inspecting the pages with great detail. The recipe for the green smoothie took her fancy and with a few little tweaks to make it her own she headed off to find her ingredients. After some gathering, mixing and finding a cute straw and bottle to drink it out of she was done.

She wasn't overly pleased with her creation, but happy to problem solve (perhaps next time less lime and spinach) and pleased with her efforts. Her little brother loved the concoction and finished up the two glasses left over.

After many tries over the next few days she came up with a favorite, and she was happy to let me share...

Poppy's Blueberry Smoothie

1 cup milk
1 handful of spinach
1 handful of frozen blueberries (minus the few you pop in your mouth)
1 frozen banana
1/2 frozen mango
1/2 the juice of a lemon

Blitz together in blender until smooth and creamy.

(If  little thick for your funky paper straws, add a little water)

Happy Smoothie making! x
