Winter weekend

I had been planning a little family getaway in my head for awhile, but when I actually sat down with the calendar, there was no way it was going to happen until late October.

This weekend just gone Tom and I had planned to go to Hobart to a cocktail party, but at the last minute baby sitting fell through so I booked in the getaway I had been wanting to do for ages.

We had been talking about exploring the North West of our state for some time, so I was excited to book in our accommodation and map out some routes we would take for day trips and some activities we could do along the way.

We left Friday morning and our destination was Wynyard, the pouring rain meant that some of my plans had to be cancelled, but we stopped at an indoor play center an hour into the trip to let the little ones stretch their legs and get rid of some energy.

When we arrived in Wynyard we checked into out accommodation which had an indoor pool and spa which was perfect considering the horrible weather.

On the Saturday we loaded into the car again and headed off further West, our destination was Stanley, but we had all day and made a few detours on the way to beautiful Boat Harbour, Sisters beach and Rocky Cape. It poured almost the entire way so we couldn't get out and explore the beaches and bush walks like we had hoped, but that was fine.

When we arrived at Stanley we headed straight to the wharf to the Seaquarium, as we had been stuck in the car and I knew the children were keen to get out and explore. The Seaquarium was a lot of fun, sharks, octopus, cuttlefish, crabs, touching ponds and more kept us all entertained.  We then went to a viewing point above the town to look at the 'nut' and the beautiful coast line.

We then headed to Smithton for some lunch, before heading back to our accommodation with a quick stop at the Table Cape light house  on the way.

On Sunday the weather cleared up a bit and we were able to rug up and head to the beach for a walk and some shell collecting.

Then we headed back home the next day with a few park stops on the way home now that the weather had cleared up.

We had a lovely time seeing parts of our state we hadn't seen before, and beautiful parts at that! The best part for me was not having any plans but just seeing where the days took us.

Are you planning a little winter weekend away?
